Your Daily Donut Schedule

In addition to making The Best Donuts on the Planet every single day our Bakery also has a special creation for each day of the week. I had a request from our own Miss Patti-Cake to post the schedule so no one will ever miss their favorite! Great idea Patti.
  • Sunday~ Cherry Cake Donut and Cherry Fritter
  • Monday~ Devil's Food Cake Donut
  • Tuesday~ Cherry Cake Donut and Cherry Fritter
  • Wednesday~ Devil's Food Cake Donut
  • Thursday~ Blueberry Cake Donut and Blueberry Fritter
  • Friday~ Applesauce Cake Donut
  • Saturday~ Devil's Food Cake Donut
Always made fresh daily!
My personal favorite is a Cake Donut with Chocolate on Top and SpRiNkleS! Never trust anyone that doesn't like sprinkles. Or glitter.

You're gonna want something to wash all that goodness down too.

Independence from the Kitchen

*Green Grocerette Tip of the Week~ Keep a Sharpie in the kitchen to date packages when you open them. A little trick I learned in the Deli*

Here’s my 4th of July story: One year we went to the Chester Parade with the family. Our youngest Granddaughter was riding on Papa’s shoulders, when she got down she hunched over and started to squeal like she was in pain! We were all on the ground looking to see if she was stung by a bee or….whatever, COMpletely freaked out. She bent over grabbed her legs and yelled “I CAN’T FEEL MYSELF!’ That’s right, her legs fell asleep. Hysterical. Anyway, if you’ve ever been to the parade you know that everybody wants to be up here for the 4th of July! Who can blame them? Lakes within minutes in all directions, cool mountain temps and so much outdoor fun. Kayaking, hiking, fishing, swimming, National Parks, all right here.

When you’re all done with your adventures here’s a super simple meal to top off the day~
1 Susanville SuPeR Meat Department BBQ Tri-Tip
Directions, slice and serve :)

I like to serve it with a Red, White and Blue Salad.
All ingredients in the quantity that works for you.
Spinach
Strawberries, sliced
Blueberries
Onion, diced
Blue Cheese
Pine Nuts
Brianna’s Blush Wine Vinaigrette
Directions, toss and serve :)

I use the tri-tip leftovers the next day to make sandwiches with blue cheese, tomatoes, onion and arugula.

Have a SuPeR happy and safe 4th of July from all your friends at Susanville SuPeR!

Soap Box Derby

In community, as in life, it’s what you make it. These LoCaLs get that and are always working hard to make our sense of community stronger, more fun and just all around better. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Patti Hagata, Past Directors Kristen Volberg, Sue Eide, Theresa Phillips, Board Members Susan Edwards (founder Main Cruise), Kerri Cobb and Kirby Lively are celebrating 25 years of Main Cruise June 23rd and 24th with a Street Dance! Slow Drags! Free midnight showing of American Graffiti! Poker Run! Car Show and Shine in Memorial Park- (Take back our Park!) And MORE! Could we be anymore Norman Rockwell? Well. Yes. By also having a SOAP BOX DERBY!

LoCaL Stu Speer was so excited to see this sanctioned event come to Susanville, he raced Soap Box in 1977. For him it was family tradition. His Uncle raced in 1938-1939 when the sport had only begun in 1934. Stu's older brother raced in '70-'71. Stu still has his original license, patch and a whole lot of great childhood memories. Back then when he ordered a kit all he received were blueprints, cable, screws and axle. There were several ways you could design your car, all the kids would talk about was racing, good thing because as Stu points out there was no Google, your info came from word of mouth. He hopes other kids have the great father/son experience he had.

I had the BeSt time talking to Kristen, Susan, and Theresa. Listening to stories of mimeographs, DOS, hand sewing and hand painting banners back in the day. These are women I admire, they are completely approachable and so kind. I appreciate their hard work and commitment to making our town a great place to visit and live.

Good luck to all the racers! Thanks to all that made this event possible! My Hometown is so stinking cool!

*Green Grocerette tip of the week~ Our Baker Richard taught me to soften refrigerated Butter only takes 9 seconds in the microwave. It works!*

Happy Father's Day!

I dedicate this week’s Community Corner to Dads. Those incredible men that show up, love and protect their kids and really are the unsung heroes of many families. Who gets Dad flowers or breakfast in bed? All the real sweetness is reserved for Mom. However, in the words of Keith Urban " “The older I get the more I can see how much he loved my mother and my brother and me and he did the best that he could and I only hope when I have my own family that everyday I see a little more of my father in me.” So Dads, here’s a shout out from just a few of your terrific ‘kids’ to their heroes!

Cyndi Bera to Rick Stewart~
"My Dad is the coolest, most amazing, hilarious, multi-hat wearing Dad ever. He wears his “boss-hat” encouraging me to work hard, be motivated, teaching me how to support myself and be independent, and the next minute he is wearing his “Dad-hat” helping me become a better person, teaching me how to be a great parent, or how to handle tough situations. And then he wears his goofy hat… literally. Sometimes in the form of bunny ears, most recently, rainbow puffs. I can always count on my Dad to make me laugh, be my wisest teacher, have excellent taste in music, and trip me in Costco when I’m not looking. Love you Dad”

Savannah Gilly to John Gilly~
“I smile because you’re my father, I laugh because there’s nothing you can do about it. Thank you for always standing by my side. I love you more than you will ever know.”

Carson Barber to Richard Barber~
“I wanted to thank my father for being an outstanding role model & let him know how proud of him for the way he raised me. Love you Pop”

Reid Mullins to Bruce Mullins~
“I would like to say Happy Father’s Day to the man that raised me and my sister by himself. Thank you Bruce Mullins, love you”

Jessica and Melissa Eid to Todd Eid~
"Our dad is the hardest working, most loyal and dedicated man we know. Dad, thank you for being such a good role model who is loved and respected not only by us, but by so many people in our community. It is because of your love and support that we will achieve so many things in life. We love you!"

Kailie Shoemaker to Jon Mossinger~
"To my dad, who has always been there for me. Growing up, you showed me how to work hard, but also how to slow down and dip your toes in the water. How to laugh at everything, especially yourself. A love for anything involving food ! How to always find my way home and never admit to being lost, because I'm only taking the scenic route ;) And thank you for always dusting me off and telling me to try again when I make mistakes. Love you so much!”

Happy Father’s Day to all those Hometown Heroes out there from all of us at Susanville Super!

Cupcake Kailie

I want to give a shout out to Kailie Shoemaker. You probably know her as our Cake Decorator but she is so much more than that. At 28 Kailie is the future of Susanville Super and I gotta say the future looks bright. She shared her wisdom with me about people wanting to get back to that personal interaction, she loves seeing many of our customers come in 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Me too. Kailie likes that we have eye to eye contact with our customers, she says it is coming back in style. Woohoo! Cuz that's our sweet spot. She has been with us since she was 17, we’ve watched her grow up, get married and become a mom to the extremely adorable Charlie. What an honor to be a part of this. Little Charlie gets to help mom now and then, she brought her Flarp (fart in a can available on aisle 8 :) in one day and told me “listen. It’s bisgusting”. *No auto correct, I didn’t mean to type disgusting. This kid is irresistible.

Kailie has loved baking since she was a kid, she was all about her Easy-Bake Oven. We sometimes have kids in to 'Decorate with Kailie’, when she watches their face she remembers how her mind was blown as a kid seeing decorators spin the cake and smooth the frosting. Plus they gave her a cookie. We do that! Her passion for baking, decorating and cooking shows in her work. I asked her where she got the idea to have kids come in and decorate, she said “because they asked”. Kailie is great with kids, a while back she decorated a GIANT cake for -and with- the 4H kids, it was a big hit. Seems everything she does is a hit. Super skilled in making The Best Donuts on the Planet (she even made them in the dark one night when the power was out), everything Deli and EVERYthing Bakery that’s our Kailie. She spends a lot of time researching for new ideas like the Russian Tips she is making cupcakes with now, cake design and the current trends.

Ingenuity, creativity and a smile that can’t be beat are just a few reasons this LoCaL girl makes us Hometown Proud!
